Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. No legalese — just clear, plain English.

TL;DR

  • We don't sell your data. Ever.
  • We use privacy-focused analytics (no Google Analytics).
  • Newsletter emails are stored securely and never shared.
  • You can request deletion of your data at any time.

1. Information We Collect

We aim to collect as little data as possible while still providing a useful, personalized experience. Below is a breakdown of what we collect and when.

Information you provide directly

  • Newsletter signup: Your email address when you subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
  • Contact form: Your name, email, subject, topic, and message when you reach out via our contact page.
  • Comments: Your name, email, website (optional), and comment text when you leave a comment on an article.
  • Contributor pitches: Information you voluntarily include when emailing us about writing for Ailico.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, time on page, referring URL, browser type, device type, and approximate location (country/city level, derived from IP).
  • Technical data: IP address (truncated for privacy), browser language, screen resolution, and operating system.

We do not collect personally identifiable browsing data across third-party websites.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following specific purposes:

  • Newsletter delivery: To send you the weekly AI tool picks you signed up for.
  • Reply to inquiries: To respond to your contact-form messages and contributor pitches.
  • Comments: To display your comment and notify you of replies (if you opt in).
  • Site improvement: Aggregated, anonymized analytics to understand which articles are useful and how to improve the site.
  • Security & fraud prevention: To detect and block spam comments, abusive behavior, and automated scraping.
  • Legal compliance: To meet our obligations under applicable data protection laws.

We never: sell your data, rent your email to third parties, use your data to train AI models, or profile you for advertising networks.

3. Cookies & Tracking

Ailico uses a minimal set of cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any cross-site tracking pixels.

Essential cookies (always on)

  • wordpress_test_cookie, wp_session — required for the comment form and login to function.
  • ailico_announcement_dismissed — remembers when you've dismissed the announcement bar.
  • ailico_theme — remembers your dark/light mode preference.

Analytics cookies (optional)

We use a privacy-focused analytics provider (Plausible) that does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information. You may opt out at any time via your browser settings.

4. Third-Party Services

We share specific data with the following trusted services to operate Ailico. Each service has its own privacy policy linked below.

When you click an outbound link to an AI tool's website, that site's own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the data practices of third-party AI tools.

5. Data Retention

We keep your data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected:

  • Newsletter subscribers: Until you unsubscribe (one-click unsubscribe link in every email).
  • Contact form messages: Up to 12 months, in case follow-up is needed.
  • Comments: For the lifetime of the article they're attached to.
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized within 24 hours; raw data deleted within 30 days.
  • Server logs: 30 days for security and debugging.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • HTTPS encryption (TLS 1.3) on all pages.
  • Database backups encrypted at rest.
  • Strict access controls — only two team members can access personal data.
  • WordPress core, plugins, and themes kept up to date.
  • Web Application Firewall (WAF) blocking malicious traffic.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If a breach occurs that affects your personal data, we will notify affected users within 72 hours as required by GDPR.
